They’ll Never Stop

Antismoking zealots are idealists trying to create an ideal world. It’s what all idealists everywhere are always trying to do. It’s what all progressives everywhere are always trying to do.

And that’s why they’ll never go away. They’ll just carry or trying and trying and trying to create a perfect world. And their perfect world is always a non-smoking, “smoke-free” world.

And that’s because smoking is itself evidence of the imperfection of the world. Smoking is something that people do when they’re stressed out in this far-from-perfect world. It’s a symptom of dis-ease, or at least unease. In times of trouble, people reach for cigarettes.

An idealistic friend of mine once said of our world: “This could be heaven.” And I disagreed. Because I don’t think this world can ever be heaven. The most we can hope for is a slight improvement here and there. And we have to recognise that some of our attempts to create a perfect world make it into a far worse world.

And this is exactly what smoking bans do. Smoking bans make the world a worse place, not a better place. They make it a worse place by forcing everyone to pretend that it’s a better place, a place where nobody needs a crutch. Smoking bans create a fraudulent world.

The battleship Bismarck was shot to pieces before it sank. The wreck on the sea floor was being filmed (48:40) using a remotely-operated vehicle:

“This is where Heinz Steig met a friend of his who had his legs blown off, where the spotlight is right now according to Heinz. The guy asked for a last cigarette, and Heinz gave it to him.”

The guy wanted a cigarette because his legs had been blown off. And his friend stopped and gave him one. It was a simple act of mercy.

But there’s no mercy among antismokers. An antismoking zealot would never have given that dying man a cigarette. He wouldn’t have had a cigarette on him anyway. Instead he would probably have given him a lecture about the perils of smoking.

We’re all aboard the Bismarck, one way or other. We’re all having our legs blown off. And so we all want cigarettes. But the bastard antismokers want us to pretend that we don’t. And they never stop their bullying and browbeating. They want us all to put on a happy face and pretend that we’re in a perfect world, not in some kind of hell.

And they’ll never stop, because they’ll never stop wanting this to be the perfect world it never can be. The real crime of smokers is to not go along with the pretence that it is.

Next up for sure will be a ban in the open air. The crazy bastards keep on trying. Thankfully the other day they turned down banning smoking in newly opened premises with outdoor spaces (pubs and restaurants) but the bastards will keep on trying.

They know that the outdoor ban is going to be a tough sell but unless there is some serious pushback it will happen. It’s just a case of when.

Antismoking zealots are idealists trying to create an ideal world. Yes, this World should be perfect for them. Others does not matter, and the best they would not be there at all.
The only way to stop them is by low. They must be taken to court. The reasons are more than enough. Humiliating a group of people by creating and spreading lies and hate.
I do remember time before smoking ban was placed, when pubs had smoking and non-smoking areas and everyone was happy. Except some, who wish to completely destroy others. Their size must fit all.
They would never understad, that people does not “reach for cigarettes in times of trouble”, but because they enjoy it and it keeps them healthy. They think they are more healthy, but the hospital numbers says otherwise, it is them who are filling hospitals.

To be used as ammunition against the control freaks and maskholes it is half buried but BMJ finding:
“We observed a markedly decreased risk of both COVID-19 disease and ICU admission in smokers. The apparent protective association was greatest for heavy and moderate smokers and most markedly on the risk of ICU admission which was 88% lower in heavy smokers compared with non-smokers.”

Thanks for that link, nessimmersion. This is the largest test group {8.2 million} on Covid-19 that I have seen. Government targets fostered £90,000 NHS fraud
    20 Aug 2008

A man defrauded nearly £90,000 from the NHS by working as a stop smoking adviser and signing up non-smoking strangers to exaggerate his success rates.

Harry Singer, 54, took advantage of the Government’s smoking cessation programme which pays doctors, pharmacists and community groups £45 for every patient they convince to give up for four weeks.

Stop Smoking Counsellor Singer received £89,505 from the NHS for signing people up to programmes to kick the habit. But many of the ‘registrants’ details were taken from other surveys or were friends who either did not smoke at all or had no intention of giving up.

Jailing Singer for 18-months, judge John Hillen said the antismoking scheme was “amateurish” and “cavalier” and blamed the Government’s target-driven culture.

“To pay lay people, albeit briefly trained, as stop smoking counsellors for recruiting and spending a few sessions with smokers is an astonishing way to spend public money,” said the judge.

He criticised Kensington and Chelsea Primary Care Trust for operating the scheme without checks which he said was an “extraordinary derogation of responsibility.”

“This was all driven by the need to meet targets and it is a feature of the target-driven culture of the governments of this country that it can lead to the opportunity for fraud,” the judge added.”

“The Primary Care Trust did not suspect the fraud even though Singer was 27 times better than the next best adviser. In just six months he claimed to have convinced 2,017 people to stop smoking, shattering the local target and winning a 2006 nomination for the Stop Smoking Supporter Award.

He received payments in respect of 1,989 people.

But he was eventually caught out when NHS bosses contacted his clients to find out the secret of his success and realised most of the people had never heard of him.”

Your story reminded me of its opposite–something that made the local news here maybe ten years ago. Not sure of all tne details, only of tne unforgettable punchline. A worker of some kind fell into a pit from which his extraction was difficult and took many hours. His legs were broken and though EMS medicos were on tne scene, when he asked them for a cigarette, they refused on account of smoking was bad for his health.

      • Rose says:

None of them have studied the health benefits of tobacco, so no one knows that cigarette smoke contains a natural antidepressant and maoi inhibiter, only scientists who were looking for what protected smokers from Parkinson’s disease.

The WHO even bent that to their own ends.

        FCTC/COP/5/9 Annex 3 page 12

“Researchers have found a marked decrease in the levels of monoamine oxidase (MAO) in the brains and peripheral organs of smokers . MAO is an important enzyme responsible for breaking down dopamine.

The decrease in MAO results in higher dopamine levels and may be another reason that smokers continue to smoke, i.e. to sustain the high dopamine levels that lead to the desire for repeated drug use.

It has been suggested that this change is likely to be caused by a substance in tobacco smoke other than nicotine.

Certain tobacco constituents are reported to be MAO inhibitors, such as 2,3,6-trimethyl-1-4-naphthoquinone …”

    This is what will happen:

Smokefree Action, an umbrella group campaigning to ‘make smoking history’, has published a ‘Roadmap to a Smokefree 2030’ and a group of anti-smoking peers recently urged the Government to explain ‘how they plan to achieve their objective of making England smoke-free by 2030.’

It’s all very well talking endlessly about our anger at the erosion of our right to smoke but talking is all that seems to be done. Unless we organise ourselves and start identifying these lying creeps whilst ruining their lives as they have done to us they will succeed.

On past performance I fear that more talk is all we will offer.

    • Smoking Lamp says:

Agree, it is time to push back against this extreme antismoking persecution of smoker. The tobacco control activists are fabricating evidence to support their persecution of smokers. The lack of dissent allows them to implement their agenda.

Nitric oxide dosed in short bursts at high concentrations may protect against Covid

      Abstract

It has long been suggested that NO may inhibit an early stage in viral replication. Furthermore, in vitro tests have shown that NO inhibits the replication cycle of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus. Despite smoking being listed as a risk factor to contract Covid-19, only a low proportion of the smokers suffered from SARS-corona infection in China 2003, and from Covid-19 in China, Europe and the US. We hypothesize, that the intermittent bursts of high NO concentration in cigarette smoke may be a mechanism in protecting against the virus. Mainstream smoke from cigarettes contains NO at peak concentrations of between about 250 ppm and 1350 ppm in each puff as compared to medicinal use of no more than 80 to a maximum of 160 ppm. The diffusion of NO through the cell wall to reach the virus should be significantly more effective at the very high NO concentration in the smoke, according to classic laws of physics. The only oxide of nitrogen in the mainstream smoke is NO, and the NO2 concentration that is inhaled is very low or undetectable, and methemoglobin levels are lower in smokers than non-smokers, reasonably explained by the breaths of air in between the puffs that wash out the NO. Specialized iNO machines can now be developed to provide the drug intermittently in short bursts at high concentration dose, which would then provide both a preventative drug for those at high risk, as well as an effective treatment, without the health hazards associated with smoking.

“However, an unexpected finding was that only a low proportion of the smokers, 8%, suffered from SARS-corona infection in China 2003 [9], and in general below 10% from Covid-19 in a review of different studies in China [10]. This is much less than the proportion of male smokers in China, 52% [11], and men seem to contract the disease more frequently than women. This data implies that about 80% of the male smokers in China were protected against SARS-CoV-2 virus, but that the accumulating chronic effects of smoking increased the risk if the patient contracts the disease. High protection has also been reported in different studies in France, USA and Italy with smokers contracting Covid-19 of 5–6% and the reference population of smokers being 25.4% in the French study [12], 13.7% in the American (New York) study [13], and 14.9% in the Italian (mainly the Milan area) study [14]. Despite these results from four different countries, there is reluctance to state that smoking may be protective against Covid-19 and a meta-analysis of 19 studies concluded that smoking is a risk factor for the progression of Covid-19 [15].

However, what the meta-analysis actually shows is that if the smoker contracts Covid-19, the patient will get worse than a non-smoker, not that relatively more smokers contract the disease. The reluctance may be due to a general opposition to smoking and fear of using tobacco to prevent the ongoing pandemic [16,17].”

If a smoker goes to hospital they are banned from smoking and are not offered nitric oxide as a substitute, they lose the extra, anti-inflammatory carbon monoxide that they are used to and that has been used to stop.cytokine storms previously, so they will get worse and maybe deliver some of those numbers that TC and governments were originally expecting.

  13. And then add the fact that these sick people have been drowned in third-party money from the pharma companies since Big Pharma launched Nicorette in the 1980’s. That is why the zealots are so hard to get rid of – they bring pharma money to the table …

WHO LAUNCHES PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY TO HELP SMOKERS QUIT

“DAVOS. – Calling tobacco a “main risk factor” to health in the next century, World Health Organization Director-General Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland announced a major project to help smokers in Europe, Russia and the Central Asian Republics stop smoking in a speech at the World economic Forum.

“By 2020, the burden of disease attributable to tobacco is expected to outweigh that caused by any single other disease,” Dr Brundtland said.

The WHO European Partnership Project on Tobacco Dependence is being set up with the objective of reducing tobacco related death and disease among smokers. The Partnership Project, which is open to both private, non-commercial and public sector partners, will support implementation of the key strategic goals of the World Health Organization’s Tobacco Free Initiative.

The strength of the Partnership Project lies in the fact that it has brought together three major pharmaceutical companies, Glaxo Wellcome, Novartis Consumer Health and Pharmacia & Upjohn, all manufacturers of treatment products for tobacco dependence, to support a common goal that will have a significant impact on public health. The Project provides a model which can provide a basis for future partnerships with the private sector in other important health areas.

WHO Europe evidence based recommendations on the treatment of tobacco dependence
      March 2002

“This was a three year project, funded largely by three pharmaceutical companies that manufacture treatment products for tobacco dependence, but managed by WHO Europe and a steering group which included government representatives and many public sector organisations. The project focused on five areas: tracking smokers’ behaviour and intention to change; the regulation of tobacco products and tobacco dependence treatment products; smoke free places and workplace policies; the implementation of evidence based treatment; and communicating the health messages about stopping smoking.”

“They were commissioned by the World Health Organization and have drawn on the experience of a number of European countries, including the four original target countries of the partnership project: France, Germany, Poland, and the UK. They were discussed in two European WHO meetings on evidence based treatment, in London in November 1999 and in Barcelona in October 2000, and revised in the light of feedback following those meetings”
