Ever Closer Union

Vaclav Klaus, writing a couple of weeks back.

We, the undersigned citizens do not wish to look on in passivity, seeing our state institutions and political representatives are wasting time at this crucial hour, failing to fulfil their duty, which is – first and foremost – the defense of the security and interests of their citizens. Massive immigration is a fundamental threat to the stability of Europe as well as individual EU countries. We are confronted with a serious threat to the future of our country.

He was quite right, of course. But a couple of days back:

The European Union’s (EU) own interior ministers today forced through a plan to allocate at least 120,000 migrants across EU member states, regardless as to whether or not the countries own populations, or their governments agreed. The method they used to force through the policy is called “qualified majority voting” (QMV) – as predicted by UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage in his Breitbart London column just four days ago.

Vaclav Klaus’ response yesterday:

Citing it as an example of social sciences operating “in rare harmony with common sense”, Klaus writes that a community’s internal cohesion is “essential to the smooth and productive functioning and the necessary stability of any society.” He specifically refers to the economic concepts of “human and social capital” without which he says “a healthy functioning state is impossible”.

“Befuddled by the ideology of multiculturalism,” Klaus warns “today’s debate on immigration ignores these elementary facts.” Instead, migration’s proponents believe individual European states can “replenish” the workforce without problems. They therefore seek to welcome and accommodate migrants with the promise of a “new, better life”.

Klaus explains what he believes to be the real motivation behind the migration policy by referring to the thoughts of the former Head of his Presidential Office, Jiri Weigl.

He repeats Weigl’s theory that it is “precisely the purpose” of the open-arms policy to destroy cohesion in order to then build a “new Europe” on the ruins of the old “without those who are satisfied with the existing Europe.” As migrants are not bound to any of the present European states, they can more easily be re-educated, manipulated and indoctrinated to identify with a “new multiculturalist Europe.”

I can believe that the purpose is to destroy social cohesion. After all, the Europe-wide (and in fact world wide) smoking bans are already extremely effective destroyers of social cohesion. In fact more or less everything these days is culturally destructive and divisive in one way or other.

But it’s much easier to destroy things than it is to create them. It requires a lot of skill and work to create a work of art, but only a few blows with a hammer to destroy it.

Perhaps the idea is that when Europe has been thoroughly shattered, it will be easy to shape it into a new form. But does anyone have any sense at all that these architects of the New Europe have any idea whatsoever what they’re doing? Does anyone believe that the likes of Juncker and Merkel and Hollande and Cameron and all the rest of them are visionary philosophers and statesmen of any kind whatever?

The only thing they seem to have set their eyes upon is the holy grail of “ever closer union”, which means the steady centralisation of power in what is now a new European Empire run by an unrepresentative, self-selected, new aristocracy which accretes more and more power to itself at every opportunity, but appears incapable of ever making any decisions.

What is the purpose of this union? It seems to have no purpose beyond its own self-actualisation. Ever Closer Union is itself its purpose. Europe must become a unified state, and all other considerations – including the well-being of its citizens – are to be secondary to the achievement of this goal. A European superstate stretching from Dublin to the Dneipr is of itself and in itself the ambition of these new empire builders: a political edifice to match the scale of the Roman Empire or the Third Reich. Something really, really big. Because size matters. Particularly in history books.

But even Roman emperors took care to placate the people of Rome, because they knew that if they turned decisively against them, they’d quickly be overthrown.

Yet our new emperors seem to delight in demolishing the societies on which their political power rests. They are sawing off the branches on which they themselves are sitting. And when they fall, they will take them all with them.

The last words of Shelley’s Ozymandias come to mind:

And on the pedestal these words appear:

“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!”

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
the lone and level sands stretch far away,

A question: I heard on the radio today that the UK has “opted out” of this sweeping enforcement to accept goodness knows how many immigrants – why can’t Klaus and the other Eastern European countries who are protesting at this enforced opening of their borders do the same? And if it’s that the newer member states are subject to different rules and regulations than the older ones, doesn’t that rather run contrary to the whole idea of a true “union,” where we’re all happy-clappy, jolly-hockey-sticks equal citizens in a lovely, cuddly-bunny, multi-culti, united Europe? Methinks that the leaders of these new, eastern European countries, keen as they were to join up and get all the cheapie loans and handouts offered to them as bait by the EU, may have very quickly come to realise what it took us some while longer to realise – that membership of the EU is nothing short of accepting rule by a foreign power in a distant land, albeit with a very thin veneer of “democracy” as a disguise. One would have thought that they’d know better, having only recently been released from the shackles of Russian-overseen communist rule. Idiots.

Wasn’t Klaus the one dissenting voice (apart from our own protests, unheeded by our own leaders) against signing the Lisbon Treaty? One wonders why, if he was so Eurosceptic from the start, he actually agreed to allow his country to become a member in the first place.

    • Frank Davis says:

He was certainly a dissenting voice, and he held out against the EU until it became impossible for him to continue.

      • Mr A says:

I seem to remember Klaus was also one of the last hold-outs against the globally-imposed smoking ban menace. He earned my respect for that alone before I knew anything else about him. However, given his current sensible stance on immigrants I was somewhat surprised that Orban allowed a smoking ban in Hungary in 2012. Given how many Hungarians smoke (I’ve just been doing my research and apparently a third of them chain-smoke!) I wonder how it is being imposed, if at all? Any Hungarian readers/regular visitors know? I was in Budapest in around 2008 and it was fantastic but I’d like to know if the ban has actually ruined everything, as it has here.

It seems to be true that any ‘totalitarian’ solution to any problem produces chaos. The EU is, by definition, ‘totalitarian’. It demands that all laws, regulations, etc, must be ‘aligned’. Stalin tried that and killed millions.
The modern day equivalent of ‘killing millions’ is ‘importing millions’. The affect that can be expected is chaos. You cannot mix individual responsibility and collective responsibility and expect anything other than COLLISION. And it stands to reason that the ‘collectivists’ will win since they are organised.
The ‘Tobacco Control Industry’ is a perfect example. It is a ‘collective’. It is a wasps nest. Wasp are tiny little insects, but, collectively, they are very dangerous.
If the political will appeared, that wasps nest could be destroyed in an instant.

    • Frank Davis says:

I think Tobacco Control is all about top down control. They see society as a sort of army, with themselves as its commanders, dishing out orders. Wasps (which I like to compare smokers to) don’t appear to have a command structure. What they do seems to grow out of the actions of individual wasps, synchronizing with each other. Quite the opposite of top down control.

      • harleyrider1978 says:

TC had only one way to keep a sort of controlled organization together and that was thru global link and it failed miserably as each different grdoup would push to much junk science that the command structure would order no drop that and do this. As with all power mad prohibiitonists they do their own thing without any bother to check with higher authority to make sure their wouldn’t be any back lash to the global propaganda……Take 3rd hand smoke Old simon told them all to drop it and the outdoor ban BS the same as Dr Siegel had warned or risk losing all they had gained.

Let me explain how 200 years of immigration in America panned out………. All those folks literally went across the nation or in the cities themselves and moved into create their own cultural hood or town. Its all thru American history and that’s how it went down. It will be no different in the EU. These populations will hang together in ghettos the same as the gypsies in spain and other EU countries. The Spanish have a simple way to deal with gypsie violence they have 30 foot tall fences and have loud speakers to tell all gypsies back to theyre government housing and then the guads lock the gates until thy decide to open them……..Trust me the gypsies are the same as the blacks in America when it comes to crime……….I was a patrol officer in Rota spain for a year I saw it first hand when working in collusion with local authorities.

Multiculturalism/diversity is in fact nothing more than international DIVISIONALISM of society and its failed everytime its been tried.

        • harleyrider1978 says:

People of a group or race tend to stick together and live together its unity and creates cohesion………that’s the Achilles heel of diversity.

      • Mr A says:

Ah, Kerry McCarthy….. I remember back in 2008 me and the Freedom 2 Choose gang got involved in a bit of a war on her blog after she came out with some stupid nonsense about smoking on her blog. She usually gets just a few comments on her blog posts and she was getting literally hundreds on each one, all related to what she had said about smoking. The likes of Dave Atherton et al were just bombarding her with study after study after study that demolished every single thing she said. But in typical leftist fashion she “sort of” accepted we had proven her points wrong……. but she was still right. Just no persuading her of the stupidity of her beliefs. Silly, dangerous bint. I even seem to remember Old Holborn got stuck into her a lot for some reason. Used to call her constituency Mogadishu South. Ah, happy days.

Which translates into waste of sound bites.

NONE OF THEM had enough brain to ask 2 simple questions:

          1. WHO financed all the studies our current smoking bans are based on?

          2. Why am I to believe Tobacco Control financed studies?

  5. Frank Davis says:

    Lech Walesa

Responding to a question on the “humanitarian crisis” presently engulfing Europe, Walesa told the Post:

“I understand why Poland and Europe fear their influx. They arrive from places where people are beheaded. We are worried that the same will happen to us.

“We in Poland have small flats, low salaries and meagre pensions. Watching the refugees on television, I noticed that they look better than us. They are well fed, well dressed and maybe even are richer than we are.

“It’s a problem. If Europe opens its gates, soon millions will come through and while living among us will start exercising their own customs, including beheading.”

While Walesa understood that in many European nations Poles are also immigrants, he articulated the widely held view in Poland and amongst its expatriates around the world that wherever Poles go, they respect local cultures and laws.

This was not the case with the migrants who have been coming to Europe for the past few decades he argued, remarking: “These immigrants are different. Even second or third generations – look at France, for example – who got good education and made money still turned against the host countries”.

    • beobrigitte says:

There are quite a few good points made which I can relate to.

I was a single migrant (reason was the father of my offspring) whose culture has similarities that of what I grew up in.
I was perfectly happy to ‘become English’ without the need to change my passport.
Just mixing and fitting in was enough.

What is happening now is different. There are masses of people entering a culture which is fundamentally different to their own. They will settle together in small communities.

On the long run it means that there will be no ‘multicultural’ society. At best, there will be individual tolerance.

      More fragments………

    Hi, Frank,
I stumbled across your blog while doing a google search. I enjoy reading it very much. I admire your writing ability. I am not a writer, however I have written a little story prompted by the October 1st law about smoking in the car with children and the opinions of it plastered all over facebook. I want to know if I email it to you, will you read it and help me make sure that it is well written? I completely understand if you do not have time for such a task. I don’t have the nerve to put my sarcastic little story on the internet if it is not well written. I would love to share it here, as I can relate to you and your following.

    Sincerely, Rebel without a flag

    ‘I TOLERATE PEOPLE EATING MEAT’

Vegetarian Jeremy Corbyn has insisted he will ‘tolerate’ people eating meat in front of him.
The Labour leader distanced himself from a call by his new food spokesman Kerry McCarthy for meat to carry smoking-style health warnings. Mr Corbyn told ITV News: ‘I think meat eaters, if they wish to carry on eating meat, that’s up to them to do so. ‘I don’t stop people eating meat indeed many people that I know very well eat meat often in front of me and I tolerate it with the normal decency, courtesy and respect that you would expect from me.’ Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3247775/Off-really-bad-start-Jeremy-Corbyn-worst-poll-ratings-new-Labour-leader-EVER.html

I don’t believe the immigrants/migrants shatter e.g. Europe. Even before thousands of e.g. African people upped their sticks and decided to go to Europe (I would try and run away from IS etc, too, btw.), e.g. Europe’s population within the individual countries was well into the process of being set against their own. For example:
I’ve been expecting this [Kerry McCarthy speaking to a vegan magazine when shared views on meat ‘Really believes’ that it should be ‘treated in exactly same way as tobacco’] for a long time. Soon we’ll be hearing about the ‘stink’ of bacon, and how meat is carcinogenic.
Rather than going into blah-blah-blah-tit-for-tat-research-finding, how about a simple question?
With respect to the consumption of members of the nightshade plant family by us all, would Kerry McCarthy please explain in great detail which plant supplies the vital B12 we all also require?
Naturally, this question will confuse Joe Average. Hands up: WHO actually KNOWS that Vitamin B12 from plants cannot be used by our bodies?
Confusion, not division weakens a community. And confusion is being blurted out every day by our idiotically politically correct media about everything. Except smoking. That is “really bad for you”. Confused people hate easier.

Is this current humanitarian disaster not also a means of driving more division?

    On a lighter note:
The other day I was asked if I could spare a cigarette. Of course. Then the guy asked for a light as well. As a joke I said: “Do you also want me to smoke the cigarette for you?”
We laughed a bit then the guy proceeded to rant about all the immigrants who take the jobs. I figured my accent gave me away. So I asked: ” If you don’t mind me asking, how old were you when you finished your school education?”
    “15”, he said.
My reply: “Are you qualified to do my job?”
    *silence*
My (English) friend listening fell over laughing!
[My English friends are becoming very defensive of me – I keep telling them that this is my job to do!!]
