It Never Ends

Seen here in passing:

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”

– H. L. Mencken

It never ends.

Add secondhand smoke, global warming, Trump, Brexit.

The list of hobgoblins is endless.

    O/T
Rolling out this business of trying to stop pregnant women smoking and their partners.

They’ve got a 50% greater risk of stillbirth! (What is the baseline? ).

And of sudden cot death (rubbished by a charity supporting affected parents).

On the ‘hobgoblin’ of secondhand smoke see the following on the recently announced Disney smoking ban:

    1) an Economic Analysis: “Will Disney World Take a Hit After Its Smoking Ban?” https://www.fool.com/investing/2019/03/30/will-disney-world-take-a-hit-after-its-smoking-ban.aspx

    2) a POLL: “What do you think about Disney’s new theme park policies?”https://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/201903/6692/

  3. Smoking Lamp says:

The Orange County Register has a new opinion piece out about the new Disney outdoor coming bans. (Orange County is home to Disneyland.) The article, “At Disneyland, smoking is out and drinking is in” https://www.ocregister.com/2019/04/02/at-disneyland-smoking-is-out-and-drinking-is-in/ is written by Robert Niles (author of the article containing a POLL on the ban, https://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/201903/6692/ The oped, along with many of the comments, is fraught with inaccuracies and antismoker biases. Once again balanced, unbiased reportage is missing as the antismoking pressure groups seek to ban smoking and impose prohibition. And of course a fair number of vapers seek to throw smokers under the bus failing to see that they are next!
