Surprise Joni Mitchell

I came across this yesterday. Nothing to do with QAnon. Not an artist I ever listened to much. I didn’t know she smoked. I was surprised.

The video has a 2013 date on YouTube. But was it shot quite a lot earlier? She’s smoking so unselfconsciously that I couldn’t help wonder if she hadn’t yet been exiled to the outdoors. But it emerged that it was shot a few months before her 70th birthday, so it was sometime in 2013. And it was shot in her own home.

What happens when Joni Mitchell meets Madonna? I doubt they ever do.

It’s part of quite a long and interesting interview. Part 1, part 2, part 3. I listened to her right the way through, just because she was smoking right the way through, and that was authentic, and she came across as authentic.

I doubt that I’ve listened to 10 minutes of her music. But I’ve now listened with interest to her talking for 100 minutes.

Great find!! I will dig – somewhere I have a tape/cd/record from her from the 80s. The song “slouching towards Bethlehem” sprung to mind.
    Glad she is a smoker!!!

    In other news,
I just heard on Politics Live (formerly Daily Politics) that after Brexit, all the nasty pictures on cigarette packets will have to be changed because they are EU copyright.

    And it’s true!

    Health warnings

The Tobacco Products Directive (2014/40/EU)requires cigarettes, roll-your-own tobacco and waterpipe tobacco to carry combined health warnings consisting of a picture from the EU picture library, a text warning and information on stop smoking services.

EU countries may also choose to apply the same requirements to other tobacco products such as cigars, cigarillos and pipe tobacco. The warnings should cover 65% of the front and back of packages. Tobacco products with combined health warnings must also carry a general warning and information message.

    The EU picture library

The EU library features 42 pictures laid down in Commission Delegated Directive 2014/109/EU of 10 October 2014.

The pictures were developed by external contractors and tested on 8.000 participants in 10 EU countries. Further information on the combined health warnings can be found in the Q and A on Combined health warnings”
    https://ec.europa.eu/health/tobacco/law/pictorial_en

Which once again shows how weak our politicians have become, they aren’t even allowed to commission their own nasty pictures, they have to choose them from an official EU list!

Thank you for a link. Very interesting. Don’t like folk music but she is an interesting person.

O/T Despite the local council rejecting a ban to ban outdoor smoking at the Boston Market, the LincolnshireLive propaganda machine continue to agitate for a ban (it real seems like the ‘xxxLive’ enterprise is underwritten by tobacco control). The latest propaganda piece has a poll: Council discuss banning market traders from smoking and vaping at their stalls”. https://www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/news/local-news/council-discuss-banning-market-traders-1978805

    • Joe L. says:

Looks like Tobacco Control’s astroturfing team hasn’t been made aware of this poll. Currently at 17% for the ban, 83% against.
