On The Brink

While everybody’s been tutting about sex tapes, nobody seems to have noticed that firstly:

WORLD ON THE BRINK: Russia warns it will SHOOT DOWN American jets amid fears of GLOBAL WAR

RUSSIA has warned it will shoot down US warplanes flying over Syria as tensions between Vladimir Putin and the West rapidly approach boiling point.

and secondly:

PUTIN ISSUES A ULTIMATUM TO THE UNITED STATES TO LEAVE EASTERN EUROPE

and thirdly:

Russia orders all officials to fly home any relatives living abroad, as tensions mount over the prospect of a global war

Comes amid rapidly deteriorating relations between Russia and the West

Why has all this been cranked up right now? I don’t think anyone really wants a nuclear war. So who needs this crisis?

I think it’s probably got everything to do with the US presidential election. If the USA can be brought to the brink of war with Russia, and Trump can be successfully portrayed as Putin’s proxy, or maybe even as a Russian agent recruited by one of his many East European wives, frightened American voters might be stampeded to vote for a hawkish Hillary Clinton who’s compared Putin to Hitler, as UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson dutifully did today.

I can’t see any other reason for it. And if so, it suggests that Obama and Clinton and the US political establishment are very, very scared that Trump is going to win this thing. Why is so much being thrown at him if nobody really thinks he has a chance of winning?

Clinton is always shown as ahead in the opinion polls, but these polls are being skewed. So nobody really knows who’s ahead and who isn’t. Or at least I don’t. But some people must have a pretty good idea of what’s likely to happen, and it seems they’re terrified.

Pretty much the only asset that Hillary Clinton has got is the full support of the entire US political class and mainstream media. And they can make it look like she’s winning and that it’s going to be her coronation in November. And so that’s what they’re doing.

But she remains a lousy candidate whose only qualification for the job is that she is the wife of a popular US ex-president. Nobody on the left is at all enthusiastic about her (they preferred Bernie Sanders). Hardly anyone shows up to her rallies, or buys any of her books. She’s on medication for cerebral haemorrhages she’s sustained from falling down, which she does regularly. She’s also terminally corrupt, and made most of her money selling influence, at $250,000 per speech for big banks.

And she’s up against someone who has built up an almost fanatical base of supporters who come out in tens of thousands to hear him speak, and who doesn’t need to buy much in the way of advertising on TV because everyone wants to see him, and so he gets free coverage, and is a highly successful businessman who actually makes and sells things.

And aren’t the left supposed to be anti-war? Isn’t that an integral part of the left wing identity? Yet Hillary Clinton is one of the biggest war hawks around, and it’s Donald Trump who is the peace candidate who is saying he can do business with Putin.  So why aren’t all the old, pot-smoking, Peace & Love hippies in California going to vote for Trump? Or doesn’t peace & love matter much any more? But perhaps that’s exactly what many of them are going to do: vote for peace candidate Donald Trump.

The way I see it, Donald Trump looks set to win by a landslide, as much of the right and quite a lot of the left turn out to vote for him. And the only way he can be stopped is if he can be made to drop out of the race. And that’s exactly what was attempted with this sex tape business last Friday. And it’s why it was attempted. Except it didn’t work.

With less than a month to go, we’ll find out soon enough. I have lots of reservations about Trump, not least of which is that he’s really just another member of the super-rich US oligarchy. Hillary Clinton was a family friend who attended his wedding.

trumpbclinton

Isn’t it possible that the master of The Art Of The Deal is going to cut a backroom deal with the Obamas and Clintons and all the rest of them to ensure a peaceful transfer of power, and grant immunity for absolutely everybody, and what we’re witnessing is just the Trump style of doing business being played out for us? If so, then expect the US mainstream media to suddenly stop attacking Trump about a week before election day, and to instead suddenly discover lots of wonderful things about him that they somehow never knew before. And expect Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio to be awarded prominent positions in his administration – and for nothing to really change at all.

I have just been listening to what has happened to Aleppo today, the little girl speaking about Assad and the war in Syria. That is when you realize how EVIL propaganda is, we do not know anymore, who is good or who is bad and I find that very upsetting. We all know the LIES about smoking and the ideology the evil ones have towards the hatred of us. So I no longer know what is real or not anymore, you Frank have a GREAT way of expressing how I and many of us feel. Do the anti smoking temperance hatred movement really know what they have done, or understand? I always wonder how Hitler managed to turn normal people into animalistic behavior and it scares me, now I understand. Please excuse any wrong grammer, although I know you will , as you are a very tolerant and decent person and I love reading your posts

No, they don’t. In fact, i don’t think they really have any idea about anything.

I always wonder how Hitler managed to turn normal people into animalistic behavior and it scares me, now I understand.

Indeed. That’s the way I see it too.

And if he doesn’t win by a landslide (definition of landslide?), indeed if he doesn’t win at all, what is your “take”, Frank?

        • Frank Davis says:

I really can’t imagine that happening. So my mind is a complete blank.

        • Barnaby Capel-Dunn says:

          Any comment on the following?

“When I saw Republican men getting attacked I stood up for them. I came to their defense. I fought on their behalf. I fought on behalf of a movement I believed in.

I fought on behalf of my principles while other women told me I hated my own sex. Not only charges of sexism, but I defended @marcorubio during Go8, I fought in my state to stop the @ScottWalker recall, etc… Now some Trojan horse nationalist sexual predator invades the @GOP, eating it alive, and you cowards sit this one out? He treats women like dogs, and you go against everything I – and other female conservatives – said you were & back down like cowards.

Get this straight: We don’t need you to stand up for us, YOU needed to stand up for us for YOU. For YOUR dignity. For YOUR reputation. Jeff Sessions says that he wouldn’t “characterize” Trump’s unauthorized groping of women as “assault.”

          Are you kidding me?!

Others try to rebuke his comments, yet STILL choose to vote for a sexual predator – because let’s be honest, that’s what he is. “What he said is wrong, and the way he treats women is wrong, but it’s not wrong enough for me to not vote for him.”

          Thanks, cowards.

Various men in the movement are writing it off as normal, confirming every stereotype the left has thrown at them. So I’m done. I’m sooo done.

If you can’t stand up for women & unendorse this piece of human garbage, you deserve every charge of sexism thrown at you. I’m just one woman, you won’t even notice my lack of presence at rallies, fair booths, etc. You won’t really care that I’m offended by your silence, and your inability to take a stand. But one by one you’ll watch more women like me go, & you’ll watch men of ACTUAL character follow us out the door.

And what you’ll be left with are the corrupt masses that foam at the mouth every time you step outside the lines. Men who truly see women as lesser beings, & women without self-respect. And your “guiding faith” & “principles” will be attached to them as well. And when it’s all said and done, all you’ll have left is the party The Left always accused you of being.

          Scum.”

I see as was totally predictable that more women have come out to accuse Trump, one from 30 years ago! I don’t think it will have much, if any, effect. I couldn’t see what all the fuss about the video was either, just hearing his words I guess but not particularly shocking to me in an 11 year old tape. The leaked emails are far more serious and it is quite probable that if Hillary was elected she would be open to blackmail as who knows what else they have, most likely all the ‘deleted’ emails.

  3. waltc says:

I think Putin’s on the aggressive now simply because he knows Obama won’t do anything to stop him, will utter a little toothless blather and back down. So he’s taking advantage of this short window of time to move his chessmen as far forward as he can. His aim is to humiliate the US and to make the rest of the world see that we’re weak and unreliable, that Russia is the new (and only) world super power.(He’ll ally with China or vie with her later.) He only dares to do this because Obama’s has been the foreign policy of a pushover, whose motto seems to have been “speak loudly and carry a small stick.”

I have no idea how either Hillary or Trump would react to the situation they’ll inherit. I don’t think Hillary has the balls for brinkmanship and would instead settle for some meaningless “agreement” without the Or Else that would make it effective or would simply dither and try to buy time (see the lousy Iran deal) because her party would hate her for taking action. Besides, she doesn’t know wtf she’s doing.

And either way, there’s NO way that Putin, who doesn’t have to worry about political correctness, would allow himself to be bested by “a girl.” And that alone might kick off a war. Meanwhile, Putin’s in the catbird seat.

OTOH, I don’t think Trump is , or is perceived to be, peace-and-love (the media meme is that he’s a hothead who’ll start ww3 if his ego is bruised) but possibly if anyone could come to a negotiated solution it would be he.

But at this point, 27 days before E day, he’s significantly behind in the polls, and tellingly so in not only the battleground states but states that were considered Republican locks.

    • Frank Davis says:

His aim is to humiliate the US and to make the rest of the world see that we’re weak and unreliable, that Russia is the new (and only) world super power.

I think that’s a complete misreading of Putin. It’s an obsolete Cold War view. I don’t think Putin has any wish to humiliate anyone. Nor do I think the rest of the world sees the USA as either weak or unreliable. And most certainly Russia isn’t either a new or an only superpower.

I see Putin as probably the single most realistic, decisive, and hard-headed world leader around these days. And I think that’s why Donald Trump admires him.

And I don’t think that Russia poses any threat to the the western world. Back when it was the Soviet Union it posed an ideological threat. But it poses no ideological threat whatsoever.

And either way, there’s NO way that Putin, who doesn’t have to worry about political correctness, would allow himself to be bested by “a girl.”

I don’t think that Putin gives one damn about whether or not he’s up against “a girl” in this particular chess game. I think he just reads the chessboard and makes his moves.

I don’t think Trump is , or is perceived to be, peace-and-love (the media meme is that he’s a hothead who’ll start ww3 if his ego is bruised)

Yes, that is the media meme. But I think that both Trump and Putin want to see the end of Isis. And I think that within days of his election, Trump and Putin will have decided how they want to do it. And within weeks Isis will cease to exist after a joint US-Russian operation.

What they might also jointly agree is that there is absolutely no need for either NATO or a European army, now that Russia no longer poses an ideological threat to the west. The real ideological enemy of both of them now is Islamic fundamentalism.

he’s significantly behind in the polls

I don’t think the opinion polls mean a thing. They’re published by US mainstream media, and they’ve been tweaked several times now to put Hillary ahead. We had opinion polls in the UK showing Remain was going to win, and they were wrong.

In some ways, this election is the megaphone media versus the conversational internet. Can the megaphone media still shape public opinion or not. If Hillary wins, it’ll be because they still can do it. If Trump wins, it’ll be because they can’t.

      • waltc says:

Well, i agree with your (and Trump’s) characterization of Putin as strong and savvy and, as I said, think he and Trump could possibly deal, if deals are possible. I do, however, think Putin is seeking to reverse the ravages of the cold war and re-establish hegemony in eastern Europe as well as to be the resident go-to power in the middle east–another area of influence it lost. As for ISIS , the existing Kerry agreement to partner on that went up in literal smoke as Putin shows he’s more interested strategically in shoring up Assad and is quite willing to bomb any forces or enclaves that oppose him. And, yes, I think he wants revenge against the cold war victors.

As for the polls, who knows? Maybe the Brexit model will apply. But for now, the media, it seems, is successfully framing public opinion and especially among women–perhaps the same women who said Clinton’s much more serious depredations were irrelevant, private, “just sex” and didn’t stop them from re-electing him. The hypocritical outrage meter is on overdrive now and the real issues (and Hillary’s really dangerous nature) are being obscured with just weeks to go. Then, too, I think you may overestimate the power–or at least the reach– of the net. Important demographics don’t go there and continue to get their news from standard media; and many only go to the media they know they agree with in advance–whether hard, airborne or cyber.

The only sure thing is that starting November 9th, half this country will despise and mistrust whoever’s its president, and despise the half-country that elected him or her.

        • Frank Davis says:

I think you may overestimate the power–or at least the reach– of the net.

In some ways, that’s the key question. On Fox News, talking to Sean Hannity a day or so back, Newt Gingrich said that this election was about the social media versus the mainstream media (or something to that effect). And I think that’s probably right, but I can’t see how to prove it or disprove it. I think the difference between the two media is that the social media is largely made up of individual people speaking their own minds, and the mainstream media is made up of people speaking other people’s minds (which is what they’re paid to do. And that’s essentially why people trust the social media more than the MSM.) And in the USA (and in the UK too), the entire MSM sings from the same hymn sheet. They don’t report anything bad about Hillary Clinton, and they don’t report anything good about Donald Trump. And maybe they actually are successfully framing public opinion.

But if that’s so, how come Donald Trump defeated 16 rival Republican candidates to win the Republican nomination, and looks to be within a whisker of winning this presidential election next month? If the MSM really has been successfully framing public opinion, he shouldn’t be anywhere near doing that. He should have been kicked out of the race months ago, because the MSM started attacking him the moment he announced his candidacy, and have never let up for the past 18 months.

To me that says that the MSM isn’t framing public opinion. Or it’s only framing a fraction of public opinion, maybe only that fraction of it which only has TV or radio or newspaper media access. How large a fraction is that in the USA?

But then the net isn’t all conservative talk radio like Rush Limbaugh. There’s plenty of left wing stuff out there. That was the stuff I used to read 10 years ago, and still occasionally dip into. So maybe it’s that the left read the the left wing blogs, and the right read the right wing blogs. I don’t know (I’m just thinking out loud).

I think he wants revenge against the cold war victors.

Unless he’s an unreconstructed communist, why should he? I certainly think he wants Russia to be an actor on the world stage, but who doesn’t want to be an actor on the world stage? I’m sure Britain and France and Germany do too.

I found this Sargon of Assad talk very informative. Some seriously scary information about Hillary Clinton and he explains some of the context around the Wikileak emails. Pretty much confirms what you and most of your commentators have been saying.

  6. Manfred says:

I see this perhaps in the simpler terms of the repulsive threat of enforced social(ist) globalisation under a UN / Civil Society / crony capitalist administration over an ensemble of managed trade blocs and political administrations (Oceania / US / EU / China etc). Their UN goal, to subjugate or submerge democracy, self-determination, freedom, national identity beneath the UN post-2015 sustainable development goals and whatever next the socialist Guterres (UN Sec Gen) articulates, in the name of ‘saving the planet’ (the general tenor is much the same as saving the individual from themselves (smoking) and others from the epidemiological construct of second hand smoke).

The ensuing poverty and powerlessness in the West, also known as the Green Nightmare is the result so many (like DJT) have feared. So, the alternative is Trump, essentially a maverick independent of self-interest, who sees, understands and fears the consequences of the UN driven eco-globalisation, who sees the collapse of Western economies, and who like the independent Russian Federation seeks to retain identity and self-determination, something impossible to do under the borderless, supranational administration of the UN and its proxies, the largely Left disposed, established global elite abetted by a traitorous and self-interested Fourth Estate, who have grown to believe their own publicity, that they are no longer the news deliverer but the news maker.
