Is there an association between Saudi Wahhabi Islam and Tobacco Control? I know that the Islamic State is strongly antismoking (and been applauded for it by Western antismoking organisations). What about Saudi Wahhabism?
According to Muhammad b. ‘Abd al-Wahhab’s system, attendance at public prayer is obligatory, smoking of tobacco is forbidden and subject to punishment, shaving the beard and the use of abusive language are also to be punished.
It appears that the Islamic State’s version of Islam is more or less identical to Saudi Wahhabism. Saudi Arabia may even be funding the Islamic State:
Saudi Arabia is the world’s leading sponsor of Islamic extremism. It is also a close U.S. ally. This contradiction, although responsible for a lot of human suffering, is frequently ignored.
There are currently estimated to be at least 400 Islamic State jihadis on the loose in Western Europe, who have been responsible firstly for the Charlie Hebdo massacre, and then the Bataclan massacre, and now most recently the Brussels bombings. Given that each attack employs about 4 jihadis, we can expect many more attacks from what amounts to a covert (Wahhabi) Islamic army operating inside Europe.
What does this army wish to achieve? Its choice of targets may provide some suggestions. The Charlie Hebdo attack was on the board of directors of a satirical French magazine, and was an attack on Western non-mainstream media. The Bataclan and associated attacks was on Western popular culture (a rock concert), and on people eating and drinking and smoking in and outside several Paris bistros: it was an attack on Western culture. To this might be added the wave of sexual assaults on European women, which is also a cultural attack.
The latest attack in Brussels might be construed to be an attack on the EU and NATO, both of whom are based there. Or a response to the capture of a jihadi leader. But the timing of the Brussels attack might also be significant. It took place on the same day – 22 March 2016 – that the the UK’s ITV broadcast Exposure: Saudi Arabia Uncovered , a secretly-shot documentary from inside Saudi Arabia. It was reviewed in the Express on the previous day, 21 March:
Sick public beheadings & female beatings which aren’t ISIS – but UK’s FRIENDS Saudi Arabia
BRITAIN’S special relationship with Saudi Arabia has been brought into question ahead of a sickening documentary exposing the brutal and oppressive life under the totalitarian nation.

Furthermore, it is being said that Saudi Arabia may be responsible for the Brussels attack:
SAUDI FINGERPRINTS ALL OVER BRUSSELS
It could of course have been entirely fortuitous that the bombings took place on the same day as the documentary was broadcast. But might the Brussels bombings have served as a warning to ITV and a diversion from the subsequent broadcast?
But with mounting concern about the Islamisation of Europe (here, here, and here), and a covert Islamic army now conducting what appears to be a violent cultural war in Europe, might it be that the War on Tobacco (and also the growing war on alcohol, and on Western culture in general) is actually part and parcel of an Islamisation process?
There is, at very least, an odd coincidence between the aims of Wahhabi Islam and those of western Public Health. Might they working in league with each other?
After all, isn’t it likely that two organisations that share the same goals, albeit for different reasons (if ‘reason’ has anything to do with), should at very least consult each other occasionally? Does Saudi Arabia fund the…
…WHO?
‘Does Saudi Arabia fund the’… Who, Frank?
Incomplete sentence has me on the edge of my seat.
FCTC of the WHO ? Maybe…….
They are all fascists same as hitler
Sorry. The last word fell off somewhere. But you seem to have guessed who I meant.
Yes, I think there is a link. Quite a strong one. One which is being ignored by the west. Oh, we so need to wake up……
Interesting thought. The previous King of Saudi, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz was himself a chain smoker, but pretty well gave up on day to day affairs in 2014.

His replacement Salman bin Abdulaziz is a never smoker. He took over officially in January 2015.
And Saudi started its offensive against the Houthis in Yemen exactly one year and one day ago on 26 March 2015.
(By the by, virtually all references Abdullah being a heavy smoker have vanished from the web. I know ‘cos we blathered about that a while back re the Saudi (no) smoking ban).
His replacement Salman bin Abdulaziz is a never smoker. He took over officially in January 2015.
Charlie Hebdo was on 7 January 2015, although a week or two before Salman stepped intp Abdullah’s shoes.
However, since King Abdullah was in hospital with pneumonia from 2 January 2015 until his death on 23 January, Salman may have effectively been in command for 3 weeks before Abdullah’s death.
Saudi smoking ban began 30 July 2012.

Trump on Saudi Arabia.
On whether he would stop buying oil from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates if those countries refused to send ground troops to fight ISIS:
“There’s two answers to that. The answer is, probably yes, but I would also say this: We are not being reimbursed for our protection… You know, Saudi Arabia… the amount of money they have is phenomenal. But we protect countries, and take tremendous monetary hits on protecting countries. … And yet, without us, Saudi Arabia wouldn’t exist for very long. It would be, you know, a catastrophic failure without our protection.”
