Bacon To Be Classified As Dangerous As Cigarettes By World Health Organization
The World Health Organization (WHO) will soon warn that some of America’s favorite meats are as dangerous a cigarettes.
WHO will target processed meats such as bacon, ham and sausages as causes of cancer and will say red meat is also hazardous to health in a decision to be released Monday. The findings resulted from a meeting of scientists from 10 countries.
Remarkable events in Portugal, no? A democratically elected government is denied the opportunity to govern because its policies challenge the European Union. The left wing coalition won more than fifty per cent of the vote; out of the single currency, an end to austerity, bollocks to the Lisbon Treaty etc. But Anibal Cavaco Silva, the constitutional president, has banned them from taking office because it’s ‘too risky’.
As Ambrose Evans-Pritchard puts it in The Daily Telegraph: ‘Europe’s socialists face a dilemma. They are at last waking up to the unpleasant truth that monetary union is an authoritarian Right-wing enterprise that has slipped its democratic leash, yet if they act on this insight in any way they risk being prevented from taking power. Brussels really has created a monster’. I wonder if they are ‘at last waking up’. And I wonder how many Labour MPs will look at Portugal and conclude that we would be much better out of this fundamentally undemocratic and arrogant bureaucracy?
The European Union faces long-term economic decline and the “love affair” of integration is at risk, Jean Claude-Juncker has said in a downbeat assessment of the bloc’s future.
“Economically, we see the end of Europe’s glorious years compared with what others are doing,” the president of the European Commission said.
The “dream” of a unified continent is at risk from “fissures and fractures” of national divisions and separatist movements, he said.
“The European Union is not going very well,” Mr Juncker said. “And so we must ensure that we keep alive the ambitions, hopes and dreams of Europe.”
