The Abolition of Fire

Whatever next?

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) – This fact might surprise you: Some scented candles could be as harmful, if not worse than smoking a cigarette.

That’s according to Doctor Andrew Sledd who is a pediatrician who specializes in Environmental Toxicology.

He said it takes only an hour of burning a candle to produce the same effects as smoking a single cigarette.

On top of that, research by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency shows candles release the dirtiest soot, sometimes containing particles of zinc, tin and lead.

“It’s more dangerous because it doesn’t get filtered on it, which removes hundreds of millions of micro particles, a candle doesn’t. Just like that in your room,” said Dr. Sledd.

Dr. Sledd said the soot particles penetrate the deepest parts of the lung and could cause respiratory illness.

Some people we talked to say they’ve thrown out their candles all together.

Jon Walter, a massage therapist in Cape Girardeau, said the warning was reason enough to switch to fake candles and oils.

“We all loved having the candles because they were so relaxing and everyone loved them so much,” he said. “But knowing that it is bad for you and for us, to be working here all day with candles burning for someone that doesn’t smoke we don’t want to be dealing with that kind of pressure.”

Stories like this make me think that the ultimate goal of the prohibitionists isn’t merely the abolition of smoking, but in fact the abolition of fire.

No smoking, no barbecues, no wood burning stoves, no candles, and ultimately no burning anything at all.

It’s where smoking ban lunacy meet global warming mania. Combustion of any sort produces soot, carbon dioxide, and countless ‘chemicals’, some of which are carcinogenic. So combustion of any sort must be outlawed, including in car engines, factories, and kitchens.

It’s why there’s a big push for solar energy, wind energy, and tidal energy. No combustion is involved.

It’s all complete barking madness, of course. For all living things also require combustion processes to power them. The abolition of fire will ultimately lead to the abolition of life.

Donald Trump has a sense of humour.

Great post, Frank. I also recently had a thought about the usefulness of fire, and how this could be the real target of prohibitionists. Fire commands power and can be weaponized; very scary stuff indeed, especially if you’re trying to homogenize the masses.

More antismoker propaganda to fuel the hysteria needed to force prohibition. Of course smoking rates are down whilst diabetes is increasing making the alleged correlation somewhat doubtful…

    Is California still on fire?

    • smokervoter says:

Prog, yes Califonria is still on fire. Guvnor Jerry Brown is linking it to a 1 degree per century rise in the temperature caused by Climate Change (Goebbels Warning). There’s talk of recalling him on mental degradation (basically dementia) grounds.

I happened upon a Box of Frogs tune “Into the Dark” featuring Rory Gallegher playing some very sweet, toneful and economical slide guitar licks. You’re probably already aware of this cut, but just in case you aren’t – here it be in all its glory.

I like an economical lead guitar solo as a general rule. However, I make an exception with the few times Jeff Beck delves into some multitudinous noodling, which you’ll find on another Box of Frogs tune called “Another Wasted Day”, which you’ll find over on the right margin of recommended YouTube cuts accompanying this link. Give it a listen, too. Nice stuff.

      • smokervoter says:

Oh, what the heck, here’s “Another Wasted Day”…

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to spend the next four hours torturing myself by trying to exactly replicate these fine solos on my trusty 1981 Ibanez Blazer.

I was always a big fan of Rory Gallagher – hadn’t heard this track. Thanks!

I saw the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart, Ron Wood and Nicky Hopkins at a bar in Toronto, Canada in 1969. It was called The Rockpile. Also saw the Yardbirds at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1966. Jeff Beck didn’t show up, so Jimmy Page took his place.

Thanks. I hadn’t heard this…..I tend to listen to the early stuff (inc Taste). My Desert Island pick would be his ’71 solo album., e.g
        .

        Superb playing.

And this sublime clip from the Irish Tour ’74 movie (I may have already posted this one!).

Saw him, Gerry, Lou & Rod at Notts University same year. Up at the front, bout 6 feet away.

        MAGIC.

Well, of course, fire is very dangerous stuff! In hindsight we should probably have said to Prometheus, “No thanks, mate! We’re OK as we are, we’ll manage just fine without that stuff, it could do serious harm! Also, we wouldn’t want you to get into trouble with your colleagues upstairs! You just run along, we’ll be fine…it doesn’t get THAT cold in winter, raw food will be better for us and looking further along we don’t really need to make metal or to manufacture anything on a large scale, we can do it all ourselves at home. Yes, we just love the Stone Age and we’re happy to stay here forever!”

    Guardian

An Apollo-style research programme to make renewable energy cheaper than fossil fuels has won the backing of Sir David Attenborough, who says this alone would be enough to halt climate change.

The renowned naturalist joins a group of eminent scientists, business executives and politicians backing a 10-year public research and development plan to cut the costs of clean energy and deliver affordable technologies to store and transport solar and wind power.

In a letter to the Guardian, the group argue that the approach, mirroring the intense Apollo programme that put men on the moon, “will not only pay for itself but provide economic benefits to the nations of the world”….

“In the 1960s, scientists overcame immense odds to achieve something extraordinary – the Apollo missions to the Moon,” Attenborough said. “Now some of the finest minds must again unite in the face of an even greater challenge.”

“Most of the great advances of the last 100 years have come from publicly-funded research – computers, satellites, the internet, smart phones,” he said.

Why is someone who is primarily a naturalist so convinced of the reality of global warming?

    • harleyrider1978 says:

First you have to be a believer in so called climate change, next you have to be on the payoff of the ones pushing it…………Attenborough is likely both a believer and a paid hack to push this BS.

    • Some French bloke says:

this alone would be enough to halt climate change.

Or, more likely, enough to switch, for PR purposes, from homogenized or adjusted figures to the actual, unadulterated data.

Why is someone who is primarily a naturalist so convinced of the reality of global warming?

Likewise, it could be asked why clinicians and surgeons routinely appearing in the MSM to bang on about smoking’s dire consequences (and in favour of more bans and taxes) are so cocksure about their own infallibility.
Unless the moment a surgeon cuts open a chest, he/she finds a note stating the exact and incontrovertible etiology of the disease or condition their patient is suffering from?

People eating fish or taking pills (omega-3 fatty acids) with the intent of lowering their chances of a heart attack might want to reconsider.

Hells teeth, one’s just left to speculate on what Doctor Andrew Sledd, who is a pediatrician who specializes in Environmental Toxicology, might have to say on the subject of joss sticks.

A whole bunch of temples, millions of devotees and tens of thousands of gifted joss stick makers await with bated breath his considered opinion. While those of the hippie generation may reflect on those nights sat stoned out of their gourds on hash, listening to Pink Floyd and Pipers at the Gates of Dawn with joss sticks smouldering away in awfully close proximity to those cheap brass ornaments and tie and dye fabrics, whilst laying upon a cheap and smelly “Persian Rug” in some squalid bedsit, with the almost obligatory pack of Disque Bleu (or Cigtanes) somewhere in the room.

My goodness, how awful that must sound to Andy Sledd. Yup it’s enough to result in COPD, even thinking about it’s enough to bring on lung cancer.
