Not absolutely sure I believe that first chart, to be honest, simply because I can’t believe that the desire to get out of the EU was as high as 65% way back in 1979 – just a few short years after we’d joined the wretched thing with, if I recall, a pretty overwhelming majority in the referendum of the time. My general feeling is that the strong levels of anti-EU sentiment have only really gathered steam over the last few years, when all the Eastern bloc countries joined and people started to notice the huge numbers of them here in the UK. Prior to that, I don’t particularly recall there being an awful lot more French, or German, or Spanish, or Italian people over here than there’d been before just because of the “freedom of movement” rules, and most people simply weren’t very interested in the EU. Way back when the Maastricht Treaty was the hot topic of debate in the papers, most of the people I knew didn’t really even know what it was about, and nor were they interested – a big difference to the amount of public awareness and interest in the signing of the Lisbon Treaty, a.k.a. the European Commission. It looks to me more like they’ve printed the “out” figures the wrong way round! I suspect that the “out” number may have dropped a bit since just before the last General Election, but I’d doubt that they’re as low as 27%.
Bearing in mind how wrong the polls were before the recent General Election, I’m not sure if this can be believed either!

Iro CyZane Huh? VA don’t want to pay Plavix if you smoke? Maybe you should show them this article that says that Plavix works only for smokers and it’s a waste of money to give it to non-smokers!

Ha! Oh Harley, what pass have we come to when the medical profession won’t prescribe a drug to smokers when smokers are the only ones who will benefit from it? Boy, they must really really hate us!
when smokers are the only ones who will benefit from it seems to be the key sentence. This surely would put a hell of a dent into the anti-smokers’ (not so) shiny armour!
Obama changed the VA rule on paying for it for vets who smoke last year in the VA 2014 regulatory changes………..go figure!
To me this is very interesting; I do remember heart attacks/strokes/DVTs being treated with pretty high doses of heparin initially and long term treatment was anticoagulant therapy.
I know a little about these things since one of my (non-smoking) siblings (+ all her offspring, 2 being a smoker) are protein S deficient. Although my (non-smoking) mother spent a considerable time of my youth in hospital with DVTs, she refused to be tested for protein S deficiency after my sibling urged her to.
At some point in the 1990s, when the anti-smokers’ blabb was spoon fed to us all, I decided to have the test. Much to my surprise I carry neither the heterozygous nor the homozygous the trait and my protein S (114%) is slap bang on the mean.
I do wonder if anti-platelet drugs, such as Plavix, would be effective as long term treatment for protein s deficient individuals. One of my sibling’s offspring is on long term anti-coagulant therapy (due to a few DVTs) and major bleeds are always an option…
I need to go away and read up on this.

BEO the PA at the VA OUTREACH CLINIC said Id have to spend 2 days in the VA hospital to be coagulated for VAs approved therapy of Coumadin that they would pay for.
Then my wife was told if we used the PCP primary care clinic they could outsource us locally to bowling green area docs instead of Nashville VA about 70 miles away. Then she got told no we send you to Nashville va hospital for everything but blood work and then we send that down there too.
Then while I was there 3 so called VA officials were inspecting the VA outreach clinic and there biggest gripe was no pictures of OBAMA and Biden up anywhere in the building of all damn things……….
In the end I was going to be drug thru the medico mill 4 times in a row with all the BS that was already done.
I cancelled them out yesterday and said look I can follow up with a local doc 20 minutes away and do my blood wok there too…………It just wasn’t worth it and the local doc gave me enuf xarelto free to finish out the course of treatment instead of VAs way of Coumadin and then they wont pay for it plus now I likely wont get back the 520 bucks I spent out of pocket for the first 3 weeks treatment…………Veterans Administraion is a total waste of time effort money and especially even bothering with after you go thru the mill with them.
My wife now fully understands why I quit using them 18 years ago……….
The Greek crisis is on what crisis number 39 since 2007…………its a never ending patchwork of patches. Before long the whole EU will be a Patch. Then the whole tube is no good any longer.
