LUNG CANCER: Just 8 per cent of men survive for five years or more, compared with 12 per cent of women.
PROSTATE CANCER: Some 85 per cent of patients survive for five years or more.

On further investigation it could possibly be that this onslaught is because today is apparently World Cancer Day and everyone quietly going about their own business should be given a nasty fright.
Frank, this is about uploading PDF files to your blog.
I’m pretty sure you can, but mostly you shouldn’t have to.
All documents in the Legacy Library have links, just like the links commenters normally provide in response to your posts. Click the link and you move to the Legacy server where you have an option to open the file as a PDF document. Other than an extra mouse click there’s no problem accessing the text (and many sites just automatically open the PDF file). I’ve posted (and read) comments with such links, and they work. You don’t have to upload the PDF to your blog. There’s no need to store it on the internet – it’s already stored.
I’m not sure about the right side bar. However….
Create a blog post called “Historical Documents On Smoking.” (Or a better title.)
Create a right sidebar icon that links to (opens) the above post.
All you need in the blog post is a list of links and for each item a few sentences about why people should read that particular document.
If I understand blogs, as an author you can change a post as many times as you like. Great! Start out with 10 historical documents. Add another 10 next week, and 10 more whenever you’re in the mood. The initial post would grow longer and longer as you add more links. Like people offering you candidates for the Graveyard, they could offer historical papers and you could add them or not, depending on your evaluation of the text.
One issue I see is that there are thousands of documents that challenge the “smoking causes” theory. You’d need some organization – animal studies, statistical problems, the black lung stuff, etc., etc. That I’m sure you can do.
Is there a limit to links in a single post? I don’t know, but if there is, you could create multiple posts that stay within the limit.
Bottom line, if you are willing to do the work I’m pretty sure you could create a robust list of historical documents. If you want to, I have lots of papers to suggest.
P.S.: I’m also sure you can incorporate a PDF link directly into any blog post. A few years ago you were nice enough to let me do a guest post, and the text was in the form of a PDF file. If you can do it once, you can do it again. But I don’t think you have to.
Thanks for that. I do indeed appear to have uploaded a pdf file to WordPress (unless it was my old blog).
Jltrader sent me a bunch of pdf files yesterday. I haven’t had time to look at them all yet, but they seem interesting. He suggested Dropbox as a place to put them. I think Google offers storage space as well.
I’ve been thinking that one day soon I’ll start a reference page. WordPress might offer such a facility. There are features of WordPress that I’ve never explored.
It’s an excellent idea, and if and when you have the time and the inclination, would be a worthwhile addition. I often find myself going back through your posts to try to find something (usually a link) someone has put in the comments; very often in vain. I bookmark a lot, but my bookmarks are starting to become somewhat unwieldy (yes, I need to sub-divide and sub-sub-divide them when I have time). A succinct reference page here would be very useful.
I think what I may need is another menu item under the header image. I’ve got Home and About at the moment, but maybe if I could add References to take you to a page full of references, that would be the page to edit.
Only I don’t know how to do it. I think it’s possible, but the WordPress instructions are incomprehensible.
Perhaps add a page (or several) as I have with different dedicated categories.
If you wish to categorise links by pages — please excuse me if you’ve discovered this and do not wish to proceed — go to the traditional Stats / Dashboard page, click ‘Pages’ and add a new one. Name it as you like, e.g. Smokerphobia, and add your links. I found that I had to type the titles in and add the URLs. Perhaps WordPress has improved since I first created mine. However, you can categorise successfully using this method.
Other than that, have a limited set of Categories — thereby avoiding ‘Uncategorised’ — and elaborate further with the Tags.
That said, a set of pages might be better, depending on what you want.
Thanks for the advice. I think I’ve begun to get the hang of it. I use Pages to create new pages, and then use Appearnace -> Menus to add them to menus.
I think I’m going to to play it by ear.

It may simply be that there are too many links. Even Frank’s blog will automatically put posts into moderation if there are more than two or three links, and he has to physically fish them out. The best way to deal with it is to try splitting your reply into several chunks, each containing no more than two links.
That said, it is also quite possible that they just don’t wish to publish the information you have provided because they are agenda driven, and you are questioning their version of events.
It happens to me on a regular basis.

Five people from Tyrone and Down in Northern Ireland have been arrested by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) officers as part of a cross-border investigation into a suspected £110m tobacco fraud.
HMRC investigators, accompanied by Police Service of Northern Ireland officers, searched nine addresses in Down, Tyrone and Armagh on Tuesday 3 February. Simultaneous searches took place in the Irish Republic at Louth and Dublin by officers from Revenue’s Custom Service with police.”
