Female traveler ‘goes nude’ at Beirut airport to protest smoking ban

Sunday, 23 December 2012

A Ukrainian female traveler went nude on Saturday at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport to protest smoking ban in all closed public spaces, according to media reports.

MTV Lebanon website reported that the traveler removed her clothes and held a sign calling for lifting the ban on smoking inside the airport. The incident caused commotion among travelers and prompted airport security to arrest her.

Merry Christmas Frank! Its just started to snow here in kentucky at my house. The first white Xmas in 7 years for me! Woohoo woot woot!

  2. MERRY Christmas (There is a difference between “merry” and “happy”!)

Na. It is now 06:47 here. I am just home from the pub, who…..had free cigars on the bar!!!! (O.K, not Havanas, but these 5 for €1 type things.) AND, more to the point, you can smoke them AT YOUR SEAT!

Of course, I took advantage. But also filled my Meerschaumpfeife” (These traditional German pipes, that take a whole months supply of tobbaco in one go(!) and have a lid, to keep the snow off the “pot”). Then proceeded, Sam Vimes like, to fill the pub with the fog of “Jamaica rum tobacco”.

HEL! What it is to live in a land that is now more free than the land that “freed” us!!!

Merry christmas you supressed and unfree.

My wish for you in the new year, is that, at least for the banstubators, the Mayans were bang on the button!

    Merry Christmas everyone!!!

The “Christkind” has been very kind to me and blessed me with tobacco!!!!

Isn’t it strange that years ago no-one thought about giving others tobacco for Christmas. Nowadays it is one of the most valued gifts!!

Merry Christmas to you as well Frank, and thanks for the gift that just keeps on giving – this wonderful blog.

I don’t know how you manage to keep producing interesting, thought-provoking postings day in and day out but you somehow manage it. Thank Goodness for small favors.

And to all of the regulars here at the Banging On cyber pub – open 24/7, all year round – [and smoking most definitely allowed] – a very Merry Christmas. You’re all the life of a damn good, never-ending party.

That said, and considering it’s 4 AM here, Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight.

An example of how an idea – thirdhand smoke” is conjured. With no evidence whatsoever, the idea is “linked” to “health hazard”, i.e., inflammatory propaganda. Then, with constant repetition by so-called [medical] authorities, becomes a “fact”.

Barham [with the Arkansas State Health Department] added that even though under state regulations people must leave a hospital’s campus to smoke, it doesn’t make it safe.

“Even third-hand smoke when it’s in your hair or on your clothes can affect a person that is sensitive,” he said. “People who are in the hospital that are critically ill are in that category for certain.”

My husband smokes and, although he never does it around the kids, the smell lingers in the car and on his clothes. How can I convince him that leftover smoke smell matters?

You’re right about what we call third-hand smoke, or THS. Firsthand smoke is inhaled into the lungs. Secondhand smoke clouds the air and is inhaled by everyone else. And then, after the smoke clears, there’s residue left on clothes, carpets, floors, walls and upholstery. That’s THS.

It’s toxic, and some of the carcinogens it deposits — which can be picked up by others — include hydrogen cyanide, butane, toluene, arsenic, lead, carbon monoxide and polonium 210. At home and in the car, your kids are especially susceptible to THS toxins if they’re crawling over floors, carpets or upholstery.

To be clear, “thirdhand smoke” is not smoke at all. It refers to a few remnants of what was once smoke (e.g., particulates, nicotine). These remnants are at trace levels, on the edge of detectability. There is no evidence of “toxicity”. There are no studies that even address, let alone demonstrate, any detrimental health effects from these few remnants. [Also, Dr. Oz is referring to some smoke constituents – as coming off the lit tip of a cigarette. I’m not aware of any studies that indicate the constituents he refers to as even trace residues] Therefore, to refer to these barely-detectable, trace-level remnants as “toxic” and as having even potential detrimental health effects is a straight out lie, i.e., inflammatory propaganda. To even refer to them as peculiar, giving them a special/separate name (thirdhand smoke), is an orchestrated misrepresentation with the intent of lying about “hazard”.

The military, too, pushes the insanity:

This level of absurdity has attracted even the selective ire of the antismoking zealot, Simple-Minded Simon Crapman:

But it makes no difference (and Crapman is aware that it will make no difference). The orchestrated hysteria, the neurosis/bigotry bandwagon, just goes right on rolling along. And the trash comes from America. The USA is one of a handful of countries not signed up to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. But it more than makes up by being the world’s leading producer of junk “research”, slogans, and “initiatives/programmes” that the rest of the world then compliantly follows.

Don’t fret over list of cancer ‘risks’

[[“We are being bombarded” with messages about the dangers posed by common things in our lives, yet most exposures “are not at a level that are going to cause cancer,” said Dr. Len Lichtenfeld, the American Cancer Society’s deputy chief medical officer.
Linda Birnbaum agrees. She is a toxicologist who heads the government agency that just declared styrene, an ingredient in fiberglass boats and Styrofoam, a likely cancer risk.
“Let me put your mind at ease right away about Styrofoam,” she said. Levels of styrene that leach from food containers “are hundreds if not thousands of times lower than have occurred in the occupational setting,” where the chemical in vapor form poses a possible risk to workers.
Carcinogens are things that can cause cancer, but that label doesn’t mean that they will or that they pose a risk to anyone exposed to them in any amount at any time.]]

Now,Im glad to see the ACS admitting to the dose response relationship finally!

So now we understand why the following is factual:

[[are hundreds if not thousands of times lower than have occurred in the occupational setting,” where the chemical in vapor form poses a possible risk to workers.]]

Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, Vol. 14, No. 1. (August 1991), pp. 88-105.

[[ETS between 10,000- and 100,000-fold less than estimated average MSS-RSP doses for active smokers]]

[[OSHA the components in tobacco smoke are diluted below existing Permissible Exposure Levels (PELS.) as referenced in the Air Contaminant Standard (29 CFR 1910.1000)…It would be very rare to find a workplace with so much smoking that any individual PEL would be exceeded]]

Another example of the neurosis/bigotry/supremacism produced by a healthist (eugenics) framework:

Saudi Women Add Divorce To List Of Smoking Dangers
40% of university graduates reject marriage
    proposals from smokers

According to a report published on Monday in Saudi
Arabia, more than 100 women in the Western city of
Madinah have filed for divorce after their husbands
refused or were unable to quit smoking.

The young women attributed their uncompromising
decision not to “marry themselves into a smoking
home” to health concerns about themselves, their
future husbands and their future children.

“Superior” [gullible] nonsmokers are being advised by the healthist propaganda to divorce or avoid marrying and mating with smokers: Smokers are depicted as potentially “inferior” breeders and a threat to everyone’s health.

Saudi judges are also using cigarette smoking as a factor in child custody cases. A smoking parent is considered an/the “inferior” parent….. just a matter of “how inferior” compared to the other [nonsmoker] parent. And they are using the inflammatory myth of “passive smoking”.

    Then there are these “gems”:
“Saudi women have added divorce to the risks and dangers associated with smoking…..”
“…..citing a report on the status of smoking-related divorces.”
“The report was prepared based on studies and research on the effects of smoking on marital relations.”

All of these statements indicate that smoking can risk your marriage or marriage prospects. It’s the exact opposite. Antismoking can seriously addle people’s thinking and wreck marriages or marriage prospects. These are antismoking-related divorces….. the effects of antismoking on marital relations. And, as usual, it’s the “educated” that produce and lap up the inflammatory, destabilizing trash. My advice to Saudi men who smoke – stay away from these “educated”, neurotic, bigoted, antismoker women (i.e., useful, “educated” idiots).
